The Challenge

The Team Nutrition Training Grant E-STAR Evaluation is a 4.5-year study that addresses Food and Nutrition Service’s need to understand the implementation of the Enhanced Strategies, Training, Action Plans, and Resources (E-STAR) Team Nutrition Training Grant program.

The Approach

Abt will conduct a process evaluation of the E-STAR training as implemented and experienced by school nutrition managers (SNMs) and their mentors. Abt also will provide evaluation technical assistance to support a grantee in developing research questions and a study design and evaluating school-based interventions carried out by the trained SNMs.

The Results

The final report will examine the implementation of E-STAR and barriers to and facilitators of SNMs’ engagement in the program. The report also will examine our technical assistance efforts to help local evaluators identify and overcome barriers to their evaluations. The study's findings will inform program improvement and facilitate scaling the E-STAR program to other states.
