Do Systems Approaches Really Work in Development?
Systems approaches are a development term du jour as we attempt to acknowledge and address the complexity of the countries and environments we’re working in. But what value do they truly offer, and are they succeeding? After all, systems approaches aren’t the same thing as systems thinking—as development practitioners, we want to draw on the latter while using the former to identify bottlenecks and advance outcomes. This panel explores systems approaches within various sectors—health, resilience, and inclusive economic growth—and what it takes to make these approaches successful.
Moderator: Kelly Saldana, Vice President, Systems Strengthening and Resilience, Abt Global
Speakers:
Midori De Habich, Technical Director for the Abt-led, USAID-financed Local Health System Sustainability Project (LHSS) and a former Minister of Health for Peru
Nicole Goldin, Ph.D., Global Head of Inclusive Economic Growth, Abt Global
